Lower Extremity Therapeutic Casting
22 Contact Hours; Fri-Sun
Service Description
The lower extremity casting course is a 3-day course. Casting includes many complex hands-on skills, and we highly recommend a 3-day course for therapists to feel comfortable with using casting skills in the clinic after the course. In these 3 days, we will cover foot and ankle function and dysfunction, the evidence related to serial casting, special tests, differential diagnosis, preparatory manual therapy techniques, multiple casting techniques and their selection based on a clinical pathway, and gait kinetics and kinematics. There are multiple labs with opportunities for each therapist to become competent in casting techniques as well as labs for fabrication of splints to use as an adjunct to casting, and orthotic selection post-casting. This should allow the group to feel comfortable to move forward with casting after course completion. This course is typically offered for physical therapists and PTAs, some facilities also invite occupational therapists/OTAs to attend.
